A new research article argues that the US government’s national security systems have not adapted sufficiently to the threats posed by groups such as Al Qaeda and Islamic State, saying they continue to be structured around state to state interactions more suited to the Cold War. It adds they are currently too focused on criminal procedures and military policy and fail to address the importance of commitment to beliefs and values, as with many suicide bombers.
