Former President George W. Bush has joined the ranks of politicians, celebrities and everyday Americans who are getting soaked in the name of charity.
In the video, Mr. Bush says he doesn’t think getting soaked on camera is very presidential, so he is just going to write a check instead. But former First Lady Laura Bush changes that plan.
Mr. Bush tags former president Bill Clinton in the video, saying “yesterday was Bill’s birthday and my gift to Bill is a bucket of cold water.”
The ice bucket challenge raises money to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, has been the viral story of August. It has raised $31.5 million for the nonprofit ALS Association since July 29, according to the group. That compares with $1.9 million in the same time period last year.
A slew of lawmakers have participated in the challenge, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) and Reps. Jim McGovern (D., Mass.) and Lynn Jenkins (R., Kan.).
So, your move, Mr. Clinton. Monday, NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs CorrespondentAndrea Mitchell tagged Hillary Clinton when Ms. Mitchell took the challenge by having her husband and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspandump a bucket of ice on her.
